Super Valued Toastmasters Club News

Five guests today! Tammy gave a wonderful speech and even utilized PowerPoint (6/26/2009)


Great meeting! An inspirational talk by Bob entitled "If You Want to Rock and Roll" about career success and Carolyn's Table Topics response about her Grandfather teaching her to respect and demand respect were among the highlights.  Houa made some amazing Pad Thai with killer sauce. (6/19/2009)


Lena gave a moving speech on why we should dance.  Bob did a great job of leading the meeting and Denis stepped in to do a fun Table Topics session. Shaun won best Table Topics Speaker. (5/15/2009)


What an exciting meeting! Tammy was Toastmaster, TJ gave his third speech, and Lena led table topics with the theme "A face only a Mother could love."  Houa won best table topics speaker.  Next week Bob is Toastmaster so we know it'll be fun. (5/8/2009)


What an awesome way to kick off Friday!  Denis Wesenberg, CTM, CL, gave an entertaining speech on his history with dogs.  Tammy Yates led Table Topics with a construction theme.  T.J. Springle won the best Table Topics speaker award. (4/17/2009).


Another great meeting! Cindy was Toastmaster of the day for the first time and did very well.

Houa was Topicsmaster for the first time and did a fine job especially with the use of the theme.    She also brought home made eggs rolls for treats. (4/3/2009)


What a great meeting! Houa excelled her 1st time as Toastmaster, Cindy won best Table Topics, Bob best Evaluator, and Tammy best Speaker!  We had two speeches and a fun learning environment! (3/27/2009)

Tammy Yates did a great job as Toastmaster on her first time!  Congrats!  Dr. Shaun Jamison talked about how Toastmasters helps with goal setting and achieving. Mike Cook lead us in some creative Table Topics.

Carolyn Kummula gave her fourth speech.  It was entitled Road Trip - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.   Carolyn shared her experience road tripping with her family.   We were thoroughly entertained! (2/6/2009)

Our open house was a huge success!  President Mike Cook 


welcomed all of our guests, including the special guest speaker (more later) and Western Division Governor, Dru JorgensenDr. Shaun Jamison gave the exhortation and challenged us to take Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's example of speaking truth and standing for what is right.





Dave Pylipow, Executive Vice President of Human Resources gave some comments with memorable quotes:  "Grow or Die"  "You will pay for training whether you do it or not" and (with regards responsibility for growing) "Look in the Mirror."  We thank Dave for being our guest speaker and his support of Toastmasters.





Denis Wesenberg led table topics with the theme of open house.  Dru Jorgensen, Tammy Yates, Tom Lindberg, and Shaun Jamison all gave short talks in response to Denis's questions.  Kudos to Tammy as a new member for doing so well!






Carolyn Kummala was the timer and Tammy Yates was our Wordmaster.

We had a fabulous meeting on January 9th!  Mike was Toastmaster, Denis was the speaker, Sandy exhortationist, and Shaun table topics master.  We had two great guests, Liz and RobDenis spoke on the Five Laws - one of which is being first.  Who remembers the 2nd person to fly solo across the Atlantic?  We were excited to welcome our newest member, Tammy Yates, who is pictured below:



Bob Arnold gave his 10th speech to obtain the Competent Communicator Award!  He now moves on to the advanced communicator program and can also work on the leadership track.



Due to the holidays, there will be no meetings on:  December 26th and January 2nd.  (posted 11/15/2008)

We had another great meeting!  Mike Cook was Toastmaster, Carolyn Kummala led a challenging Table Topics session which Bob Arnold won for an inspiring talk.  Shaun Jamison gave a speech entitled "Water, Water Everywhere - Living a Life of Abundance."  Listen in here.

Super Valued Speakers Toastmasters member Shaun Jamison was among those honored for earning their Distinguished Toastmaster Award since July 1st.  Shaun also gave the toast to the office of the prime minister of Canada at the District Conference (it's harder than it sounds ;)) (posted 10/27/2008)


We had a great meeting!  Alexey amazingly explained the current financial crisis in a few minutes in his speech "And the word of the day is . . ."  This was Alexey's 2nd speech and the project was "organize your speech."

Mike introduced us to the five most significant weather events in Minnesota history.  This was his seventh speech - only three more to the Competent Communicator award.  The project was "research your topic." (posted 10/17/2008)


Mike Cook won Area 93 Tall Tales contest and Shaun Jamison won the Area 93 Humorous speech contest!  Go Super Valued Speakers!!!

Tall Tales speeches are 3-5 minutes long, substantially original, with a topic selected by the contestant.  The speech must be highly exaggerated and improbable and have a plot or theme.  Props and humor may be used.

Humorous speeches are 5-7 minutes long, original, not objectionable/offensive and be thematic (opening, body, conclusion).

Audio of Table Topics
Listen in on Toastmasters being put on the spot to create a speech about how Toastmasters benefits people and companies.  The Table Topics portion of the meeting helps participants practice responding to unknown questions and situations to be better leaders and communicators.  The theme of the questions changes from week to week.  The discussion is led on this particular occasion by

Mike Cook Wins Area 93 Toastmaster of the Year!
Mike Cook

Outgoing Area 93 Governor Bob Nowak recognized Mike Cook's outstanding commitment to the growth of the club and its members. Mike served as an officer, regularly took on challenging meeting roles, and competed in an area speech contest. Mike made an impromptu speech about the impact of Toastmasters in his life during an event honoring Supervalu's relationship with and support of Toastmasters over the year. Several dignitaries were present including the International President of Toastmasters.

Mike is picture on the right with Area 93 Governor Bob Nowak. Each area consists of 5-6 clubs, each of whom submits their nominee for Toastmaster of the Year.
